9 Month Check-up

Even though Kendall won't be 9 months old for one more week, we went to Dr. B for her check-up today. Randy leaves for leadership team retreat on Sunday and will be gone until Thursday of next week, so we bumped up her appointment so he could come. Dr. B said she looks great! He actually told us she is very strong and healthy. She weighed 21 pounds, which is only half a pound more than at her 6 month check-up. She is also 28 1/4 inches long. This surprised us because we think she seems so much longer these days and that is only 3/4 of an inch longer than at her 6 month appt! She is in the 90% for weight and the 75% for length. Still a big girl!

We talked with him about what she has been eating lately and what she is ready for now. Currently, she eats three times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She nurses and then eats fruits and veggies. We've tried meat but she doesn't really like the texture of it. We talked with him about weaning her, which we've decided to do this next month, and he told us we can just go straight to whole milk. Yea!

She wasn't due for any shots at 9 months, but I asked about getting her flu shot and he told us we could do that today. She was not happy about it! Our friend Teresa had to give it to her and she was sad to be the one to do it! Then we had to go to a different place to get some bloodwork done. At 9 months they check iron levels for anemia. So, she got all calmed down from her shot and then they had to prick her little finger and squeeze a lot of blood out! That was the worst yet, because it wasn't just a quick little shot. She was a trooper though and after taking her home for a nap, we rewarded her with a trip to the pumpkin patch!
Here is a picture of the bandage they put on her finger after they drew blood. She could not figure out what that thing was!

Trying to calm her down for a nap. She was so tired and ready to just be left alone! I love this sweet girl!!!

I'm so sorry you had to get all that poking at your appt.

What a good check up though. You are getting to be such a big girl. It will be interesting to see what you think about whole milk. You have done so well at everything else I expect this will be too.

I feel like you are changing so much lately. I'm equally sad and excited. I don't want you to grow up so fast but can't wait to see what you'll do next.

One thing is for sure we love you bunches!

Tough stuff - all that poking and stuff! It's not easy on mom & dad either!!

Kendall is old enough to "know" that she wants to nurse so weaning her might be rather traumatic and emotional for her and you. You might want to look at your calendar and plan on focusing on her even more while you wean her. She might be needing extra comfort, security and reassurance in other ways since she won't be getting that as much when you nurse her. And mom, you will most likely need that with her too. Also, you might be tired if you have too much going on. Just a thought. This will be the case when potty training and for other milestone growing up times.

Even though it's mostly functional, nursing your child is such a special time. You will miss it and you won't. :)

Maybe she'll do great and you won't have any trouble. I will be praying for you guys. Kendall is so precious and this is such a precious time. I love my big kids but I sure miss my babies! It all goes by so fast.

Thanks for the advice, Andrea. I am having mixed feelings about weaning her: I know the freedom will be nice, but I will miss that special time with her. We're going to take it slow and make sure we're spending lots of good time together! It is all going by way too fast!

What a good mommy and daddy you have, Kendall! Your health and sweet personality are a credit to them taking such excellent care of you! I'm so happy that you all have each other!

Oh, poor little thing. When Mikey got his finger prick at 9 months, he had that bandaid off before we even got out of the parking lot. Hard to believe, I know.

I nursed Jackson until he was 15 months old. Once he started asking for the "teet" (thanks, Phillip) I figured it was time to stop. I've never regretted nursing him that long. It really built a special bond between us.

Poor sweet girl you were so brave!

You look bigger in every passing post, I may just have to come down there and see you real soon!
