Henry Jefferson Harper

This past Sunday, Kendall's Great Grandfather, Lisa's dad H.J., passed away. He was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm, had major surgery on June 23, and never was able to recover from the surgery. We drove to Ft. Worth on Wednesday to be with Lisa, Maegan, and Dad for the funeral. Randy and Scott officiated and did a wonderful job. It was a sweet service and a good time to be with family. HJ was a devout longhorn fan and loved teasing us Aggies. He even went so far as to send Christmas presents for Kendall, like a longhorn hat and small football. We loved him and will miss him. Here is his obituary:

Henry Jefferson Harper Jr. passed away Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine.
With his passing, Grapevine is losing one of its historical figures. Born on July 4, 1927, H.J. lived in Grapevine for 82 years. He was a local commercial and home builder. H.J. was the quarterback for Grapevine High School in 1944. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served with his two brothers during World War II. He was married for 53 years to Betty Laminack Harper and had three children.
Survivors: Wife, Betty Harper; daughter, Lisa Harper Wood and husband, Mark; sons, Henry Jefferson "Jeff" Harper III and wife, Cristina, and David Clinton "Clint" Harper and wife, Christi; grandchildren, Maegan Eason, Ashley Dane and husband, Randy, Alden Johnson and husband, Scott, Michael Callan and wife, Ileana, Alexandra Harper, Andrew Harper, Jaden Harper and Jarren Harper; great-grandchild, Kendall Dane; and sister, Mildred Harper Scott.

Thank you for the beautiful tribute to my dad. He would be greatful. And... he would ask you if longhorns should be capitalized.
Love you,
Lisa

I read this with tears, so thankful for a daughter and son-in-law that would honor a grandfather in such a beautiful way. I feel so bad for Lisa and her loss and am so happy to see all involved have not lost their sense of humor! I did not know H.J. that well, but I bet he would be very pleased about that!
